A Beautiful life starts with a Beautiful home
Home is where you begin and end your day. Home is where you create & nurture life. A beautiful home inspires, cuddles and de-stresses like none other. The role of a beautiful home in making a beautiful life is second to none. At House of Ekam, we design products to create beautiful homes!
Walls have the highest viewable surface area and beyond wall paintings, photo frames and more recently wall paper, walls largely go unnoticed while planning the interior décor. We were inspired by boho style African handwoven baskets to create more interesting spaces with walls being the centerpiece. With the aspiration to bring African baskets to the Indian market, our search for made in India baskets ended with Odisha in 2018.
SABAI is handmade at its finest. Each sabai basket is handwoven by a group of women artisans in rural Odisha in a fair trade environment. Women artisans make our baskets in comfort of their homes or in groups at designated centers. Depending upon complexity of the patterns, each basket takes 6 hours to 3 days to weave. We work with 200+ women artisans empowering them with a considerable hike in their regular income thus providing improved living conditions.
Starry Night 2.0 features bolder colours and takes the design of our baskets up a notch. From abstracts to evergreen flowers to spirals, each basket has been thoughtfully designed to bring out the best in your homes. Our SABAI collection features designs that look great as a set on the wall or as individual baskets on your coffee table or on your nightstand to store trinkets. Sabai baskets make as a great gift to your loved ones on festive occasions and housewarming events.

About the Designer
Rooted in a deep appreciation for handcrafted artistry, our designer brings together modern aesthetics and traditional craftsmanship to create meaningful pieces for the contemporary home. Inspired by global cultures, natural materials, and stories of skilled artisans, the designer’s work blends minimal elegance with handcrafted authenticity.
Their journey into design began with a desire to create décor that is not only beautiful but purposeful — pieces that celebrate heritage, empower communities, and elevate everyday living. This philosophy led them to the rural artisan clusters of Odisha, where centuries-old weaving techniques and sustainable materials like Sabai grass are skillfully brought to life by women artisans.
With a focus on ethical design, cultural preservation, and mindful craftsmanship, the designer continues to innovate while staying grounded in values of sustainability and social impact. Each creation reflects a balance of form, texture, and tradition, turning simple materials into timeless decor for every home.
