A large leaf-form tray in solid wood, hand-carved with radiating ridges and finished in matte black ebonising. Gold gilt is applied along the carved high points — the contrast between dark and gold reads differently under different lights. Use it on a console, a coffee table, or a vanity. It holds objects or holds nothing equally well.
In the edit because
"The gilt follows the actual structure of the carving — it's applied to the ridges, not painted on top of a flat surface, so it catches directional light rather than glowing uniformly. The leaf form is drawn from the banana leaf, one of the most used forms in Indian material culture."

From a carving workshop in Saharanpur, UP. The leaf form is carved from solid mango wood, then ebonised and finished with gilt applied along the ridges by hand. Because the gilt sits on raised carved surfaces, no two pieces reflect light in exactly the same way.

"Using this on my vanity for rings and small jewellery — the dark finish makes everything placed in it look good. "
